The coach that guided Portugal to Euro 2016 triumph coach and unfortunately their disastrous quarter-final exit at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, Fernando Santos, left the team after their quarter-final exit to Morocco last year. This meant that they needed a new manager immediately and the job was immediately given to Roberto Martinez.On the 9th of January 2023, Martinez was announced as the head coach of Portugal, replacing their erstwhile coach, Fernando Santos. Many instantly thought that Martinez will find life hard at the Portuguese national and also many thought he will drop the captain and star player, Cristiano Ronaldo from the squad. But the reverse was the case because Roberto Martinez has been calling up Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal’s national team games – and Ronaldo has been scoring goals and he recently racked up 200 total career appearances for the national team – and he has also maintained a 100% record at the team.Roberto Martínez’s start to life as Portugal manager has been flawless and this has restored back the confidence of the team after their painful exit from last year FIFA World Cup. Roberto Martinez 100% record includes 8 wins from 8 games. Also, last night, for the first time in Portugal’s history, they led by five goals going into half time. In addition to that, Roberto Martinez side has also scored 32 goals in the last eight games too.
