Bella Shmurda, the Nigerian singer who is known for his hit songs such as “Cash App”, “Vision 2020” and “Rush”, has announced that he will not be going ahead with his planned tour of Canada.
The reason for this decision is the tragic death of his friend and fellow singer, Mohbad, who passed away on Tuesday.
Bella Shmurda and Mohbad were close friends and frequent collaborators, having worked together on songs such as “BB2 Poverty”, “Adura” and “Ginger Me”. They also shared a similar style of music, which blended street pop with afrobeat and hip hop.
Bella Shmurda shared the news of his tour cancellation on his X account on Saturday, saying that he was saddened by the loss of Mohbad and needed some time to mourn. He apologized to his fans in Canada and promised to reschedule the tour dates.
Mohbad’s death sparks controversy and investigation
Mohbad, whose real name was Promise Oladimeji Aloba, died under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. The cause of his death has not been revealed to the public, but there are speculations that it may have been a homicide or a suicide.
Mohbad had a troubled history with his former label, Marlian Music, which was owned by Naira Marley. He left the label last year after a dispute with Naira Marley over his contract and royalties. He accused Naira Marley of exploiting him and not paying him what he deserved. He also claimed that he received threats from Naira Marley and his associates after he left the label.
Bella Shmurda revealed in an interview with Chude Jideonwo months ago that Mohbad once attempted suicide because of the pressure and harassment he faced from Naira Marley’s camp. He said he had to intervene and save him from killing himself.
The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into Mohbad’s death and has asked Bella Shmurda to cooperate with them and provide any information that may help them solve the case. The Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said they are waiting for Bella Shmurda to come forward and assist them.
