I was WRONG on this; We learn everyday.
My last post about the Honorary Doctorate Degree conferred on Mr Macaroni has generated a lot of mixed feelings and I understand why because the personality involved is loved by a lot of us including myself.
What I didn’t know is that Honorary Doctorate Degrees are basically “transactional” in some situations.
Let me state here that I didn’t have a problem with Mr Debo getting such honour but I felt the honour was commonize by the institution by taking it to his office to make the presentation. I felt a title like such is prestigious and shouldn’t be cheapened by chasing a recipient to his doorstep to present.
I must agree I was less informed on how these things work. Never knew 😩
I just ran a little research on Honorary Doctorate Degrees and found something that just changed my perspective on this and totally made me see my wrong. My push to run the research was fuelled by the comments of some of you. I knew I may be wrong when over 80% of the comments
were against my opinion and I realized my submission on that may be erroneous. I know the kind of followers I have here, I respect them, 80% of them couldn’t be wrong. And I didn’t want to look disrespectful to them by ignoring their correction and counter-opinions.
Now this is what I found online that made sense to me, on a website I found that “honorary doctorates are typically awarded to celebrities, often in exchange for a graduation speech or publicity for the university, or even a donation. They can also be awarded to people who have proven their value in research, however”
Now this makes sense.
Just as I suspected, the honour was given in exchange for publicity. And by the post I read online, there is nothing wrong with that. So, traveling from Benin Republic to make the presentation in Mr Macaroni’s office in Lagos wasn’t out of place as I felt, as long as they can get the needed publicity for their institution from Mr Macaroni.
Honestly, I didn’t know this wasn’t out of place.
I would have gone to apologize on his page now but them do block me 😂😂😂😂😂😂
