A radio station in Ekiti State, Fresh FM 106.9 FM, has joined the list of media outlets that have stopped playing songs and contents from Marlian Records, the music label owned by Nigerian singer Naira Marley.
The decision was made following the controversial death of one of the former artists of the label, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The statement
The radio station announced its suspension of Marlian Records songs and contents in a statement signed by its Head of production and Music Content, Oluwaseunfunmi Williams.
The statement said that the action was taken in response to the public outcry and the viral videos that implicated the members of the label in the death of Mohbad.
The statement also said that the suspension would last until further notice, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation into the case.
The death
Mohbad, a 27-year-old singer and rapper, was found dead in his home in Lagos on September 12, 2023.
The death of Mohbad has sparked a lot of controversy and speculation on social media and other platforms. Many people have accused Naira Marley and his label mates of being involved or responsible for the death of Mohbad.
Some videos have circulated online, showing Naira Marley and other artists of Marlian Records allegedly abusing and torturing Mohbad before his death.
Some people have also claimed that Mohbad was killed as part of a ritual or a sacrifice for fame and wealth. Naira Marley and his label have not commented on these allegations or on the death of Mohbad.
Naira Marley only posted a tribute to Mohbad on his Instagram account, describing him as “more than an artiste or signee but brother and dear friend” to him.
